Laptop and water don’t mixed. The first thing you should do is to power off the laptop and wipe off the excess water. You will be in a little luck if this is just some water. If this happened to be coffee, tea or milk, the situation may worsen as they tend to be harden to clean and this makes the keyboard sticky after drying. In most cases, the keyboard has to be replaced.
When it comes to water spillage on a laptop, the laptop must be disassemble for cleaning. Any excess water that seeps inside the laptop may cause corrosion if left for more than 3 days. In most cases, yes. The data is stored on a separate component called the hard drivve (SSD/HDD). If there are no water marks found on your hard drive (SSD/HDD), the data should be safe but this will also depends on the hard drive existing condition. For Macbook user, SSD are soldered on the motherboard and thus the data should be fine if there are no water marks on the motherboard.
